Beautiful day today. We decided to drive to Culross & try something different, so we followed the coastal path east to Preston Island & walked the circuit around the island to Valleyfield before heading back to the car; a good 2-hour walk.

Preston Island is actually an artificial island which was once used for salt production using coal from a local mine & large salt pans. The land was reclaimed in the early 19^th century by Sir Robert “Floating Bob” Preston. Ruins of the buildings used can still be visited & we took some time to look round them. The island is now a nature reserve & we saw & heard a variety of birds including linnet, willow warblers & dozens of shell ducks.
