I love my job working with people and their families that have been impacted with dementia as this is deeply meaningful to me as my granny had dementia. I have a lived understanding with how dementia can affect people in different ways and I feel my empathetic approach can bring some comfort to those dealing with the disease.

My name is Mark McBride, and I have been working for DPDS for the past 3 years which I really enjoy. The best part of my job is meeting new people and trying to make a difference in their life’s. I really appreciate getting to spend quality time with people, getting to know their likes and dislikes, and tailoring their support towards this which I find very rewarding.

I stay in Larbert with my wife my 9-year-old son, and 2-year-old cat called Milo. I have a passion for cooking and eating (sometimes too much), Italian being my favourite.

My motto is ‘treat people the way you would expect to be treated yourself’.

I love my job as a 1to 1 support worker because I get to build a fantastic relationship with the person I support.

When I arrive at their home and get a  get a big smile or cuddle it is so rewarding.

I learn about their interests and routines and make sure my visits are tailored around that, which makes my days so varied.

I leave their home knowing I have made a positive impact to their day, whether its playing their favourite music, doing an activity they enjoy or just getting out a run in the car and having a good chat with lots of laughs along the way.

I have worked with Dollar Park for over 8 years. I am involved in the 1-1 support but  have lately  helped with the day to day  and evening groups. This has given me the opportunity to meet a wide variety of our service users. I have a couple  of my service users who also go to the groups. It has been great to see how they interact with other people in this environment.  It has also helped me in a personal way as I am interacting with more people and being involved in group activities.

No 2 days are the same with the 1-1 service .

I enjoy hearing stories from our service users lives , what they did , what their hobbies were and about their families. Some of their stories are happy and some are sad. It sometimes also helps them to talk about events in their lives.

I have only been in the carer service since I joined Dollar Park and wish now I had started this journey earlier in my career.
